For more than 160 years, St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery has served as a sacred place of rest, remembrance, and prayer for Catholic families throughout Council Bluffs and Southwest Iowa.

Established in 1864, the cemetery remains a peaceful place where families can remember their loved ones in the hope of the Resurrection. Every person laid to rest here—and every family story entrusted to its care—is treated with dignity, compassion, and reverence.

Support the Holy Family Bell Plaza

St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery invites families, parishioners, and community members to support the new Holy Family Bell Plaza through the Buy a Brick Program.

Commemorative engraved bricks may be purchased in memory or in honor of a loved one, family, mentor, organization, or special intention. Each brick will become a permanent part of the plaza, helping create a meaningful place for prayer, reflection, and connection with the generations of faithful Catholics who have gone before us.

The cemetery is cared for through the shared efforts of the Diocese of Des Moines and the Catholic communities of Corpus Christi, St. Patrick, and St. Peter parishes. Proceeds from the brick program will help beautify and preserve the cemetery grounds, support ongoing care, and ensure that this sacred space remains a place of peace, faith, and dignity for generations to come.
